Every Rescue Dog Has a Story
Sometimes all they need is someone willing to help them write a happier ending
Bringing a rescue dog into your family is incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with its challenges.

Your new dog may have experienced an uncertain past, and adjusting to a new home, family, routine and environment can take time. Some dogs settle quickly, while others need a little extra support to build confidence and learn to trust their new surroundings.

Having been through this journey with Billy myself, I understand that every rescue dog is different. There is no one-size-fits-all approach.

At Secret Dogs Business, I offer personalised, positive reinforcement training and support to help you and your rescue dog navigate this transition.
Meet Billy – Our Beautiful Rescue Boy
Over seven years ago, our family welcomed a very special boy into our lives. His name is Billy, and he came to us through a rural rescue centre.

Billy's early life hadn't been an easy one. At around 18 months to two years of age, he had been found abandoned in a paddock, chained to a tree. He was underweight, had some neurological issues and was incredibly frightened of the world around him, including my children at the time.

Despite being so young, he was already showing signs of a difficult start to life. His coat was wiry, he had started to go grey, and he was a very anxious little soul.

From the beginning, Billy formed a very strong attachment to me. He needed reassurance and time to understand that he was finally somewhere safe, that his new environment wasn't going to disappear and that his family was there to stay.

It wasn't an overnight journey, but with patience, understanding, consistency, training and plenty of love, Billy slowly began to find his confidence.

Today, he is a very different dog. He has overcome many of his fears, is much more comfortable with his surroundings, happily welcomes visitors into our home and has become the most loving member of our family.

His favourite things in life? Chasing his little ball and playing tug-of-war with his beloved cracker!

We feel incredibly blessed to have Billy in our lives. He has taught us so much about patience, trust and the importance of giving a dog the time and space they need to feel safe.

We truly are the luckiest dog family to have him, and we wouldn't change our journey together for the world.
